8 Tips on Setting Up your Own Yoga Space
What to have, what to prepare and what to do:
1. Location. Ideally find a space where you can be both undisturbed and have freedom to move. Lay out your mat with a bit of space around all sides if possible.
2. Have a big screen. Use a laptop, tablet or TV so you can see the class on a big screen. With your phone it maybe harder to follow the visuals but could still work with hearing the cues.
3. Charge your device. Ensure you have a full battery or get your laptop plugged in so it doesn't cut out just before your well-earned relaxation :)
4. Blanket and pillow. Have a blanket ready nearby to keep you warm in the final relaxation, and a cushion, pillow or block if you might need extra support during class.
5. Arrive a little early. It's good to arrive 5-10 mins before class starts so you can settle into the space, check your angle and positioning, and say hi to your teacher.
6. What if you're new? It's good to get in touch with the teacher before class and introduce yourself if you are new to yoga, are pregnant, or have any injuries or health conditions. Arriving to class a little early will also allow you to have a chat with the teacher.
7. Music. You may want to play some bliss-out yogi tunes on a separate device, if so have YouTube or your Spotify ready to go.
8. Vibe :) You might want to light a nice-smelling candle or burn some incense. It is also nice to draw your curtains before the deep relaxation (yoga nidra) at the end of class.
